Ann Curry

Ann Curry is a photojournalist as well as a journalist, author and has been covering areas of war for over forty-five years. Her work focuses on the human suffering of disasters and human tragedy. Curry has written about the conflicts in Kosovo Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo and the Central African Republic. Ann Curry (born on November 19th, 1956 in the city of Agana) is an American anchor, reporter on television as well as a journalist. Curry was best known for her work as a reporter on The Today Show, which was a morning news program that was broadcast by National Broadcasting Co. Curry's work was noted because of her coverage of human crisis that occurred in war-torn countries and natural disasters. Curry's maternal grandmother is Japanese and her father was an US Navy Sargent. Curry's parents were married in Japan in Japan, in which her father was stationed after World War II. As a result of her father's active military service, the family relocated often. They finally arrived in Ashland Oregon where Curry attended the high school. After graduating from University of Oregon, Curry received a bachelor degree in journalism degree in the year 1978. She was exposed to a variety of cultures and the experiences she had during her growing up may have influenced her empathy way of communicating on global issues. Curry was not able to go to a single school in the cities of San Diego, Alameda Oregon or Virginia over the course of two years because her family relocated frequently. Ashland, Oregon is the place where Curry graduated. As an intern at KTVL Channel 10 Medford, Oregon she began her career in broadcasting. She was the first female news reporter for the station when she was 22. Later, she became an anchor/reporter at KGW located in Portland Oregon. Then, four years later she moved to Los Angeles and became a reporter for KCBS TV. She received two Emmy Awards during the six years with the station.
